Ho Chi Minh City to develop 20,000 more social housing by 2020

In a plan on development and management of social housing, HCMC aims to build 20,000 social apartments and 35,000 accommodations for workers and laborers in industrial zones and 10,000 accommodations for students by 2020.

Accordingly, from 2017- 2020 period, the Southern city will develop 37 social housing projects on a total land area of 134.89 hectares, providing about 43,624 apartment, of which 29 projects,  covering a total area of 46.69 hectares, adding 19,436 apartments are set to be completed and put into use.

Also in this period, HCMC plans to complete 8 housing projects for workers on an area of 18.6 hectares, providing accommodation for 31,180 workers. 

In 2017, a students’ dormitory project will be inaugurated in the city on an area of some 4,000 square metres, satisfying providing 250 concentrated accommodations for students.

Work will start this year on a dormitory project for students with the total floor area of 4,000 sq.m, supplying 250 concentrated accommodations for students. During 2018-2020, HCMC will call for investment in this type of housing to provide 3,250 more accommodations for students.

The city will also develop many types of social housings in the upcoming time, in order to meet demand of residents, civil servants and low income earners. The projects are expected to provide diversified area apartments with prices from VND300 million ($13,200) to VND1 billion ($44,000) per unit to suit payment ability of local residences.
